Those hot summer days and nights are here, and Washoe County’s elderly population is in need of a breeze.

(HSA) and

are calling on the community to donate new fans for our seniors through August 2019.

Donated fans must be new and still be in boxes, and dropped off between 9AM and 3PM Monday through Friday at the Washoe County Senior Center at 1155 E. 9th Street, Building E. They can also be donated to

locations.

Seniors, ages 60 and older, can pick up fans by contacting Washoe County Senior Services at (775) 328-2575 or stopping by the Senior Center at 1155 E. 9th Street, Building E between 9AM and 3PM Monday through Friday. Seniors without air conditioning and those who have not previously participated in the program are a priority.

The drive is something that local seniors really appreciate.

“I’ve seen a lot of friends here getting the fans,” said local senior Alice Reid. “It’s hot and we really need them. We appreciate the fans at home. It's great.”

“It seems like it’s been in the 90s for a month,” remarked local senior Ann Kent. “If a person has no air conditioning or poor air conditioning it’s a big help.”

The

is also accepting donations of fans for seniors in the Carson City area. Fans can be dropped off or picked up between 9AM and 4PM Monday through Friday at 911 Beverly Drive. The phone number is (775) 883-0703.

The

is also accepting and distributing fans. There, call Patti Gurule at 775-782-5256.
