And anyone over 13 is welcome to contribute by entering online and logging runs via phone or smart device.

As Usain Bolt bears the Jamaican flag and Jessica Ennis dons the Great Britain colours once again, Guernsey’s own Commonwealth Games athlete Sarah Mercier takes the responsibility of captaining the Channel Islands.

Any Channel Islands entrants will represent a Smaller European Nations team that also comprises entities such as Gibraltar, the Isle of Man and even Liechtenstein.

Each nation’s scores will be based on the number of qualifying kilometres run and, thankfully, results will be adjusted based on population size among other factors.
