Further negotiations have taken place between the committee and four unions representing the Agenda for Change pay group.

The negotiations were supported by the Industrial Disputes Officer who acted as conciliator, said P&R in a statement. ‘The Policy & Resources Committee believes the discussions were constructive, said the statement. A revised offer has been made and the committee looks forward to hearing back formally from the unions with what is hoped will be a positive response.’

The Royal College of Nursing wants a 10% pay rise to reflect the professional and technical nature of nurses’ work, and to bring them in line with other public sector workers. The three other nursing unions – the Royal College of Midwives, Unite and Prospect – all balloted their members. Unite and Prospect members accepted the 5% pay offer, RCM members rejected it. Some 1,500 people protested last week calling for a further meeting to discuss pay or they could strike.
