Alderney’s little ferry returns to service

The ferry, which operates between Guernsey and Alderney, had only just gone into service when it suffered serious engine problems.

It was taken to the UK last week, but returned this week.

Bruno Kay-Mouat, from Alderney Shipping, said the vessel was back in the water yesterday [Friday] and had operated successfully between Alderney and Guernsey.

‘The repairs have all gone well,’ he said.

‘They replaced an engine, have done survey work and overhauled one of the water jets. We are looking forward to a busy summer.’

Unfortunately, bad weather this weekend has forced the cancellations of today’s [Saturday 4] sailings and tomorrow’s [Sunday] are doubtful.

It is hoped sailings will resume as normal on Monday.

Many sailings are booked up as islanders look to take staycations this summer.

Investigations are taking place into putting on extra sailings over the summer.
