BRONX — An off-duty NYPD officer was killed in a crash in the Bronx Wednesday morning, police said.
The officer, identified as Brian Kessler, was driving northbound on Shore Road near the Pelham Bay golf course when his vehicle collided head-on with a Parks Department vehicle at about 8:20 a.m., police said at a news conference Wednesday.
The 28-year-old officer was in his private car driving home after an overnight shift at PSA 8, police said. Officials say a FDNY firefighter extricated Kessler from his vehicle and an EMS administered CPR as he was transported to a hospital. Kessler was pronounced dead at 9:15 a.m.
Kessler, who was recently engaged, graduated from the Police Academy nine months ago and had been working at PSA 8 for the last three months, officials said.
Two Parks Department employees suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital to be treated.
People who live near the crash site tell PIX11 the road is always bad at that very spot.
“It’s very dangerous, I spun out twice,” one resident tells PIX11.
Officials say they are reconstructing the whole incident to see what happened at the time.
